Three Lancers Will Represent Team USA

Three Lancers are off to represent the United States in November!

Eric Borba, long-time Lancer Baseball Head Coach, was recently named Assistant Coach of the USA U18 National Team. Team USA will compete in the COPABE (Pan American Baseball Confederation) World Cup Qualifier in La Paz, Mexico this November.

Before this appointment, Borba coached other USA Baseball squads, including serving as the 12U Head Coach in 2016 and an assistant of the 13/14 USA Athlete Development Program in 2021 and 2022.

“Anytime I get the opportunity to represent the United States, it is a huge honor,” said Eric Borba. “I still get the chills every time I put those three letters on my chest.”

Coach Borba’s son, Casey, and junior Derek Curiel will join him in La Paz as members of the U18 team. Both are Trinity League All-League selections and were chosen to represent America for the first time in their careers.

Borba said, “Adding the icing on the cake is I get to coach two Orange Lutheran Lancers on a National Team. The cherry on top is that one of those two is my own son. As a baseball dad, I don't know that there is anything in this game that can beat that!”

Borba hopes to join OLu Baseball’s Associate Head Coach, RJ Farrell, on the winning trail. Last August, Farrell led the USA U12 team to a gold medal at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Cup, held in Taiwan.

Update 11-13-22

Lancer baseball head coach Eric Borba and his son Casey Borba are coming home as gold medalists!  Team USA went a perfect 8-0 in the tournament and beat Panama in the gold medal game on Sunday 11-1 to win.  Casey was named to the All-Tournament Team for his performance. Derek Curiel was unable to participate after his selection due to injury.
