Signing Day: Celebrating OLu Athletes

Signing Day is an exciting day for student-athletes where they announce their binding agreement to a college in front of their friends, family, and high school staff who gather at this event to celebrate this major milestone. Taking place three times a year, Signing Day is the day where we celebrate our students who commit to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.

At Orange Lutheran High School (OLu), we maintain high standards of excellence and a warm, energetic, Christ-centered, and nurturing environment where students can thrive as they discover and develop their unique gifts, talents, and passions.

Thanks to our online learning platform, students in our Blended learning program can balance their extracurricular commitments and their academic schedule. Here are the 7 Ways OLu supports Blended learners.

As part of the nationally-recognized Trinity League, OLu’s athletics is known for its long history of excellence across 25 athletic programs. At OLu, we understand what it takes for a student to remain committed to an extracurricular or sport and balance a rigorous academic schedule.

“You are with them every day, from working out in the gym to having three-hour practices daily and having one-on-one meetings in terms of what their ultimate goals are,” says Henry Valiente, the Volleyball Coach for the Girls and Boys teams.

Are you considering the Blended learning option for your child? Here’s what you need to know about OLu’s Blended Learning schedule options.

What is Signing Day?

In the world of high school sports, Signing Day is a momentous occasion for students, parents, and OLu staff alike. Signing Day is a day to celebrate students who have been invited to play their chosen sport at the collegiate level. This monumental day can be one of the most memorable days in a student's life as it carves the path to their dreams, like playing professionally in the future.

“Knowing that they've accomplished their dream of getting into college is the best feeling in the world. It's the intrinsic rewards that matter to us the most. And that's that feeling of just helping someone reach their goals,” says Valiente.

Student-athletes from OLu have attended prestigious schools around the world. In fact, from the 2021 graduating class alone, we celebrated two members of the boy’s volleyball team who went to MIT and another member of the girl’s volleyball team who attended Stanford.

So what does a Signing Day event look like at OLu? When Signing Day comes around, OLu makes every effort possible to ensure that this event is one that those in attendance will remember.

“The word that I want to use is electrifying. The room and the energy is just sheer passion,” says Valiente.

Parents, friends, and faculty alike gather together for the purpose of celebrating the accomplishments of their fellow peers.

At OLu, we invest our faith and heart in taking care of each other and in setting our students up for success so that they leave high school with a strong foundation to build on. It is this mentality that is woven into all aspects of our academic experience and imparts lifelong skills that can be applied in all aspects of our students' lives.

“What separates OLu from other schools out there is the passionate and positive culture. We tend to do things with our hearts on our sleeves, and we really are invested 100%. Our mentality is, if you're not passionately doing it, then you're doing it wrong,” says Valiente.

At OLu, we celebrate the unique God-given talents of each student and salute their hard work and dedication as it relates to their future athletic pathways, and Signing Day is just one of the ways we celebrate our students’ accomplishments together.
