Regular Season

OLu opened the 2022 campaign with a strong win over Brea Olinda 13-5. However, struggles ensued afterward, as the Lancers won only once through the next seven matches. At 2-5-1, the Lancers hit their stride, beating Mater Dei and St. John Bosco twice. Needing a 3rd place finish in the league to qualify for the playoffs, the Lancers needed a victory over JSerra in the season's penultimate match on April 13. The back and forth contest ended tied 9-9, which sent it to a tiebreak of games won, and the Lancers won that by one 71-70. That win helped seal a spot in the CIF-SS Division 3 Playoffs as the Lancers finished 3rd in the Trinity League. They entered the playoffs with a 7-9-1 record overall.

Trinity League Tournament

Before the opening of the Division 3 playoffs, the Lancers would compete in the Trinity League Tournament, and it was a historic day for the Lancers.

CIF Round 1 vs. Capo Valley

Coming off a historic day in the Trinity League finals, the boys tennis team took the court in the team CIF event when they traveled to Capo Valley for round one of the CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs.

Capo entered with a 13-6 mark on the year and home-court advantage, but the Lancers controlled most of the day. The singles grouping of Paul Dandler, Nathanael Rider, and Jacob Eusebio each swept their matches on the day. The Lancers led 8-1 after the first round of matches and didn't look back en route to a 13-5 win.

The win set up a date with El Dorado in round 2 of the playoffs.

CIF Round 2 vs El Dorado

The OLu boys tennis team won a thriller 10-8 over El Dorado in the CIF-SS Division 3 second round to advance to the quarters.

After the first two rounds of play, the match was tied at 6-6. With the game in the balance, freshman Nathanael Rider defeated his opponent in the day's final match to secure victory.

The Lancers had many come-from-behind victories in the win, which were vital. Manuel Choi and Garo Garabedian had big wins as a doubles tandem. Paul Dandler swept his three matches while Michael Ishizaki and Chris Choi swept their doubles matches.

The Lancers qualified for the CIF quarterfinals for the first time since 2019 and would face Poly/Riverside with a date in the semis on the line.

CIF Quarters vs. Poly/Riverside

For the first time in program history, the Lancers boys tennis team is in the CIF-SS Semifinals after an 11-7 win over Poly/Riverside.

OLu started fast and didn't look back in their quarterfinal. After the first round of matches, they led 5-1. They split the next two rounds 3-3, which led to the Lancers 11-7 win.

Junior singles player Paul Dandler swept his opponents, as did the doubles tandem of Chris Choi and Michael Ishizaki. Freshman singles player Nathanael Rider had the match of the day when he rallied from down a game to win his first-round 7-6.

OLu will travel to Scholl Canyon Golf & Tennis Club in Glendale to play Flintridge Prep in the semifinals on Wednesday at 3 pm.
