Tarlow was a 4-year member of the OLu baseball team as an infielder and catcher.  He helped OLu to the 2018 CIF semifinals and 2019 CIF quarterfinals.

After graduation, Tarlow attended Cal State Northridge.  He missed his freshman season due to injury.  In his two complete seasons, he batted a career .302 with 14 doubles and 44 RBIs.  During his redshirt sophomore year, he was named to the Buster Posey Award watchlist.
